The show will rise again!

Currently postponed!

Jesus Christ Superstar

Updated: 29th March 2020

We are so sorry that we have been forced to postpone our next show for now. We are hoping to resurrect our musical Jesus Christ Superstar in late July or August, but are waiting for further clarity from the government.

If you have booked tickets for the original dates, you have three options:

1. You can rebook your tickets for one of the new dates. When these are announced, you simply need to email, quoting your original e-ticket number, and advising which new performance you would like to book for. People who had already booked will enjoy a short priority pre-booking period ahead of the tickets going on sale to the general public again.

2. Donate some or all of your ticket purchase to the charity. Interesting Theatre is a charity, run entirely by volunteers. Our shows incur costs from the moment we start working on them, well before the production opens to its audiences. These include performing rights licences; rehearsal room costs; props, costume and scenery costs; deposits for venues, licences and technical equipment hire; and so on. Unless there is government support, and so far there is no clear guidance on this, our charity stands to lose some money from having to postpone the show.

3. Request a refund. Should you choose this option, we ask for your patience and understanding, as the current circumstances mean we have limited availability for processing any requests we might receive. Please do not contact your credit card company as that will slow the process down and place additional burden on our box office team.

A rock opera based on the last week of Jesus’ life.

Lyrics by Tim Rice
Music by Andrew Lloyd Webber

What’s the buzz? The first musical by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice to be produced for the professional stage, Jesus Christ Superstar has wowed audiences for over 40 years. A timeless work, the rock opera is set against the backdrop of an extraordinary and universally-known series of events but seen, unusually, through the eyes of Judas Iscariot.

Loosely based on the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, Superstar follows the last week of Jesus Christ’s life. The story, told entirely through song, explores the personal relationships and struggles between Jesus, Judas, Mary Magdalene, his disciples, his followers and the Roman Empire.

The iconic 1970s rock score contains such well-known numbers as “Superstar,” “I Don’t Know How to Love Him” and “Gethsemane.” A true global phenomenon, Superstar continues to touch new generations of audiences and performers.

An Amateur production by arrangement with The Really Useful Group Ltd.

Our new studio venue - The Space @ Avon Valley Theatre

October, 2019, saw our first studio production: "The Last Five Years" by Jason Robert Brown. We reorganised the venue's usual theatre to produce an intimate, modern, studio-style venue to bring even more exciting productions to Rugby's vibrant amateur theatre scene. The experiment was a resounding success and we look forward to bringing you more productions staged in these innovative surroundings.
